Indeed, the high temperatures we experienced until mid-April, added to exceptional luminosity have encouraged the stems to grow very fast. Then we had an intense cold spell which slowed down the process ; so today, I estimate that the peak flowering should occur 8 days in advance.
In my private garden ‘Lugano’ (F. Cayeux 1948) opened up on the 22nd of April. This variety’s blooming always signals the start of the flowering season and generally occurs on the 1st of May. If these clear conditions remain, the peak flowering at our nursery should be around the 21st of May. However, at this point, it is difficult to be absolutely certain.
Illustrated varieties: ‘Lugano’ (Cayeux 1948) and ‘Santiago Castroviejo (Cayeux 2013)’ which can be found on our website www.cayeux-irises.com (except ‘Lugano’ which is part of my private collection)
We hope that you will come and visit us this month: the nursery will be open daily including week-ends and holidays. You will be able to see our latest introductions, order irises with a small welcome discount or buy some of our potted irises!
